ISTANBUL (AA) – 21 years old Mustafa Faruk who presented to Medicana Çamlıca Hospital for treatment with shortness of breath found the cure in Turkey.According to the statement from Medicana; patient who underwent many surgeries due to function loss in trachea held on to life thanks to Lecturer Cüneyt Aydemir, M.D., Thoracic Surgeon, Chief Doctor in Medicana Çamlıca Hospital.

21 years old Mustafa Faruk from Iraq was taken under treatment in his home country after the traffic accident that happened while he was returning from picnic to which he went with his friends.

Stenosis developed in trachea after he was intubated at the Intensive Care Unit due to respiratory failure. Following the operation performed to repair this stenosis, infection and tissue loss –secondary to it- developed and thus, Faruk underwent one more surgery to eliminate this loss.

Patches were applied to trachea with tissues obtained from the cervical muscles; however, breathing could not be achieved as those muscles have cartilaginous tissue and thus, tracheostomy tube was placed.

Apart from the speech problems secondary to tracheostomy tube, obstruction developed since size of tube was not appropriate for the trachea. Beginning to suffer from shortness of breath again, Faruk presented to Medicana Çamlıca Hospital.

Obstruction in trachea was eliminated with bronchoscopy and balloon application, Montgomery tube was placed to achieve continuous breathing and eliminate stenosis.

When he returned for control visit 9 months after the operation performed by Cüneyt Aydemir, deformation in trachea appeared recovered and Faruk underwent a cleaning surgery again.Montgomery tube that ensured breathing was removed and a short silicone stent was placed at its location. Following this successful surgery, hole in his throat was closed since it was no longer needed and Faruk was discharged in healthy status after spontaneous breathing was achieved.

-"Our patient can breathe normally and speak easily now".

Cüneyt Aydemir, whose remarks are included in statement, noted that:
