Check-up

What is a Check-up?

In hospitals and other health institutions, the unit that performs health examinations on the whole body for the purposes of routine health checks, prevention of possible diseases, and identification of people at risk of a disease is called the Check-up unit.

Check-up does not only serve for preventive purposes, but also takes part in all three stages of diseases. These tasks are listed as follows:

•Checking the general health status of the person in order to prevent possible diseases

•Identification of the risk factors of diseases (this reduces the risk for serious diseases.)

•Controlling the diseases after they are diagnosed (it is done to prevent the disease from recurring.)

The check-up unit serves clients and patients of all ages. Check-up scans are applied at certain intervals in every period of life.

Which Diseases Does the Check-up Unit Treat?

As mentioned above, the check-up unit plays an important role in the early diagnosis of diseases. It especially plays an important role in the early diagnosis of risky diseases such as coronary heart diseases and cancer (breast cancer, uterine and cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, etc.). Not only healthy people but also diagnosed patients apply to this unit.

The scans performed in the Check-up unit are classified according to their scope, but in general, the following tests are performed in all Check-up methods: blood test, full urine test, chest X-ray, cholesterol and lipid levels, thyroid function test, sedimentation (applied to detect inflammation), hepatitis (jaundice) test, whole abdominal ultrasound, electrocardiography and stool test. However, the functions of organs such as the brain, reproductive organs, eyes and heart are also analyzed in comprehensive Check-up scans. Especially in advanced ages, it is important to have an eye check-up.

Diseases within the task scope of the check-up unit are as follows:

•Diseases related to metabolism

•Cardiovascular Diseases

•Kidney diseases

•Brain and Vascular Diseases

•Neuromuscular diseases

•Thyroid gland diseases

•Some blood diseases such as anemia and vitamin deficiency

•Cholesterol

•Diabetes

•Heart valve diseases

•Shortness of breath

•Rheumatoid

•Liver diseases due to hepatitis virus

•Cancer (lung, large intestine, liver, pancreas, bladder, prostate, breast, uterine and cervical cancers)

•Osteoporosis

•Liver diseases

•Splenic diseases

•Gallbladder diseases

•Pancreatic diseases

•Bone diseases

•Eye diseases

Check-up unit serves for the early diagnosis of the diseases mentioned above. However, the check-up outpatient clinic plays an active role in the follow-up of chronically diagnosed patients (hypertension, diabetes, goiter, insulin resistance, occlusive vascular diseases, etc.) and in the investigation of new risk factors for these patients.
